Reading Time

Stadtbücherei

Once a month, ensemble members of the Theater und Orchester Heidelberg read at the Stadtbücherei, offering an exciting literary addition to our programme with free admission.

In the run-up to the premiere of Rossini's comic opera »La Cenerentola« in the Marguerre-Saal, Marie Dziomber reads the fairy tale by Charles Perrault on which it is based. This Cinderella story from 1697 has striking differences to the later versions, such as those by the Brothers Grimm. There are no doves or hazelnut trees here; instead, the focus is on interpersonal relationships.

On 29 June 2024, Henrik Ibsen's »Nora« will premiere in the Marguerre-Saal with topical commentary by Sivan Ben Yishai,
Gerhild Steinbuch and Ivna Žic. As a reaction to this Norwegian women's rights classic, the Swedish playwright August Strindberg wrote his story »Ein Puppenheim«, which revolves around the same theme: love, desire, affection, jealousy, self-sacrifice - about what survives between people when everything else fades away. Andreas Seifert will read.

To coincide with Dario Fo's comedy »Bezahlt wird nicht!« at the Schlossfestspiele in the Dicker Turm, Hendrik Richter commits himself to the memoirs of the Italian Nobel Prize winner for literature, a great provocateur of the theatre. Without mincing his words, with a touch of irreverence and irony, Dario Fo talks about politics, comedy, censorship, religion and social commitment.
