a new dance company for Heidelberg

The Theater & Orchester Heidelberg received over 1,000 applications from all over the world for its new dance company. From the 60 dancers invited to audition, ten ensemble members from diverse backgrounds were selected, supplemented by two dance trainees from the Zurich University of the Arts. The overwhelming response underlines the international appeal of the dance programme in Heidelberg. The search was for more than just technical excellence: the result is an artistic community in which a shared, sensuous movement can emerge from diverse styles, personalities and artistic experiences. During the preliminary rehearsals in June and July, the twelve-strong ensemble bonded and already developed large sections of the opening premiere, »Orlando«. The production is now entering its final rehearsals, and all those involved are already in the throes of premiere fever. Heidelberg can look forward to an international ensemble that sees diversity as an artistic strength.
