Hye Rim Ma was born in South Korea and received her first piano lessons at the age of four. From 2000 to 2003, she attended the Busan High School of Arts in Korea and graduated with honours from Yonsei University in 2007 with a Bachelor's degree. In October 2007, she continued her studies with Prof. Michael Hauber at the Staatliche Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst Mannheim, where she completed various degree programmes such as Diploma in Artistic Training, Postgraduate Studies in Soloist Training and Diploma in Chamber Music with top marks. In addition to her studies, Hye Rim attended masterclasses with Bernd Goetzke, Wladimir Krajnew, Bruno Rigutto and Wolfgang Watzinger. Between 1996 and 2012, she won various prizes at the Eum Yeon Competition, Kyung Sung University Music Competition, Eumkyo Competition, Korea Piano Duo Competition and the 6th International Summer Academy Schloss Heiligenberg. Hye Rim Ma has received scholarships from Yonsei University and the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research. She performs as a soloist, accompanist and chamber musician. She has performed as a soloist with the Kurpfälzisches Kammerorchester as part of the Mozart Gala in November 2010, 2014 and in January 2013 with the Baden-Baden Philharmonie. Hye Rim Ma is currently a lecturer at the Staatliche Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst Mannheim.
