Tanja Kramberger

Tanja Kramberger completed her training at the Modeschule Graz (Design department) and went on to study psychology. She created her first stage and costume designs whilst working as a set design assistant at the Schauspielhaus Graz for three years. Since 2008, Tanja Kramberger has been working as a freelance set designer for, amongst others, the Theater Aachen, Schauspielhaus Graz, Düsseldorfer Schauspielhaus, Schauspiel Stuttgart, Berliner Ensemble, Het Nationale Toneel in The Hague, and the East End Collaborations performance art festival in London. She has a close working relationship with director Bernadette Sonnenbichler. Their most significant collaborative works include Büchner’s »Leonce and Lena« at the Schauspielhaus Graz (2010), Dea Loher’s »Innocence« at the Theater Münster (2013), Bulgakov’s »The Master and Margarita« at the Theater Aachen (2015) and Molière’s »The Misanthrope« (2019) at the Schauspiel Stuttgart. She also created the costume and set designs for the two VR productions »The Burrow« by Franz Kafka, directed by Elena Bakirova, and »Krasnoyarsk: A 360° Journey to the End of Time« by Johan Harstad, directed by Tom Feichtinger, at the Schauspielhaus Graz. The latter was awarded the Nestroy Theatre Prize in 2021. Having previously designed the costumes for Shakespeare’s »Romeo and Juliet«, Kästner’s »Fabian« and Wedekind’s »Lulu« (directed by Bernadette Sonnenbichler) at the Düsseldorf Schauspielhaus, she continued this collaboration as costume designer on the production of Anne Weber’s »Annette, an Epic of a Heroine«, Bertolt Brecht’s »The Good Person of Szechwan« and Boris Vian’s »The Foam of Days«. At Theater & Orchester Heidelberg, Tanja Kramberger designed the costumes for »The Journey of G. Mastorna« in the 2023/24 season.
