After training as a theater painter in Aachen, Benita Roth studied stage design at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama in Cardiff. In 1997 she was a finalist in the National Linbury Prize in London.
Since then she has worked as an assistant in Germany, France, Italy and Spain. She has since created her own works in Mainz, Erfurt, Linz, Regensburg and for the Neue Opernbühne Berlin, the Prison for Women in Berlin, the Neue Oper Vienna, the Vienna New Opera, the Berlin Chamber Opera, the Nuremberg Dance Theater, the Ballet am Rhein and the ballet of the Hanover State Theater. At the Komische Oper Berlin she designed the stage sets for »Pinocchio« and »The Emperor's New Clothes«.
In joint productions with director Jan Eßinger, she created the sets for »Die Alceste« at the Schlosstheater Schwetzingen and for »Hänsel und Gretel« in Bielefeld, the stage for »Ariadne auf Naxos« (also in Bielefeld) and the costume design for »Der goldene Drache« at the MusikTheater an der Wien and for the new production of »Carmen« at the Saarländisches Staatstheater Saarbrücken.
In 2024, she designed the stage and costume design for »Béatrice et Bénédict« as her first work at the Staatstheater Braunschweig (director: Franziska Severin), as well as stage and costumes for »Il Viaggio A Reims« at the Theater Krefeld/Mönchengladbach.
