In the 2024/25 season, Anja Kühnhold worked with the student ensemble of the Dutch National Opera Academy on »La fedeltà premiata« by Joseph Haydn and staged »La Traviata« at the Chemnitz Theatre. »Carmen« is now her first directorial work at the Heidelberg Theatre.
In the past two seasons, she made her successful debut at the Pfalztheater Kaiserslautern with »L’elisir d’amore« (2023) and at the Opernhaus Wuppertal with »Die lustigen Weiber von Windsor« (2024).
At the Badisches Staatstheater Karlsruhe, as head of music theatre (2016-2024), she staged the interdisciplinary children's opera »Schaf« (2024), »La finta giardiniera« (2021), »Gianni Schicchi« (2021), the prelude to »Ariadne auf Naxos« (2021) and »GOLD!« (2018) as well as five staged song recitals, which she conceived together with director of studies Cordelia Irene Huberti.
In addition to her work as head stage manager at the Badisches Staatstheater Karlsruhe, she has made numerous guest appearances as a member of the director's team, takeover director and assistant director at internationally renowned theatres such as the Bayreuth Festival, the Royal Opera House London, the Prague State Opera and the War Memorial Opera House San Francisco.
From the 2025/26 season, she will take over as opera director of the opera department at Theater Kiel and will direct at Theater Hagen and Pfalztheater Kaiserslautern.
