Suzanne Emond

Suzanne Emond is a director, actress and author. She grew up in Belgium and Slovakia and her first language is French. In 2007, she completed her acting studies at the ARTS² art school in Mons, Belgium. She initially worked for several years as an actress between France and Belgium before writing and directing her first play »Et devant moi, le monde« (»And in Front of Me, the World«) in 2012. Since then, Suzanne Emond has mainly worked as a director and author specialising in contemporary drama. At the same time, Suzanne Emond was an associate artist of the French political touring ensemble La Fabrique des Petites Utopie (Factory of Small Utopias) from 2011 to 2016. In 2017, she received a writing grant from Wallonie-Bruxelles Internationale. She has lived in Germany since 2016. In 2018, she received a second writing grant to take part in the 10/10 programme in Poland, where she wrote a play for young audiences. In Berlin, she staged »Der Reservist« by Thomas Depryck (2019) and »Season One« by Florence Minder (2021) at the Theater unterm Dach. At the same theatre, she presented her theatre version of the novel »The Fourth Wall« by Sorj Chalandon (2022), which she developed together with dramaturge Nora Haack, with a team of German, Belgian, Lebanese, Palestinian and Syrian artists. From 2021 to 2023, Suzanne Emond performed the monologue »And there is nothing more to say« by author and director Thierry Simon in France, a world premiere for the Festival off d'Avignon. In 2023, she was selected for a writing scholarship and a residency in Belgium. In the same year, she co-directed »Descendre« in Brussels, a text by the Belgian playwright François Badoud. In 2024/25, Suzanne Emond will stage the world premiere of »Unter euch« by Thomas Depryck at Theater und Orchester Heidelberg, which she is developing together with the author and with the translator Frank Weigand.
