Malik Diao

The composer and multi-instrumentalist Malik Diao was born in Ingolstadt in 1999. During his studies (in musicology, composition, jazz, philosophy, new German literature and art history), he began to develop musical concepts for theatre plays and installations in collaboration with directors such as Annette Müller, Alexander Nehrlich, Julia Mayr and Lisa-Maria Schacher. The latter could be seen at the Dortmunder U and at the Lichtstrom Festival. In addition to his theatre music, Diao is also active as a jazz musician in various formations such as the Lighthouse Trio and the quintet Approach // Edit and as a producer in the duos Rosvita Radikal and Malik Diao X Fred Red and in the collective Pak Choi Pentet. As a visual artist, he is primarily dedicated to creative coding and digital art and is a founding member of the artist collective [blank]. He received a scholarship from the Gunther and Waltraut Greffenius Foundation in 2015 and the City of Ingolstadt Jazz Prize in 2020 for his work.
