Nikolay Borchev

The baritone Nikoay Borchev is at home on all major stages and sings a wide-ranging repertoire from baroque to modern times. As a young singer, he joined the ensemble of the Bayerischen Staatsoper for several years before moving to the Wiener Staatsoper for two seasons. At both opera houses, he was heard in specialist roles such as Guglielmo in »Cosi fan tutte«, Papageno in »Die Zauberflöte« and Figaro in »Il Barbiere di Siviglia«. The artist has a close working relationship with the Bayerischen Staatsoper, where he has returned as Schneidebart in Richard Strauss' »Die schweigsame Frau«, Prosdocimo in Rossini's »Il Turco in Italia« and Der Liebende in Nikolaus Brass' world premiere of »Die Vorübergehenden« among others.
He is a regular guest at the Théâtre de la Monnaie in Brussels, the Deutsche Oper am Rhein, the Staatstheater Stuttgart, the Semperoper Dresden and at various festivals. As a sought-after concert singer, Nikolay Borchev works with major orchestras. The artist has a wide-ranging repertoire of song programs, which includes the song cycles of Beethoven, Schubert, Schumann, Mahler and Wolf as well as songs by Shostakovich, Tchaikovsky and Grieg. Nikolay Borchev was born in Pinsk (Belarus) and received his musical education in Moscow. From the age of 16, he studied singing at the Tchaikovsky Conservatory in Moscow and then at the Hochschule für Musik »Hanns Eisler« in Berlin. He has won several prizes at international singing competitions.
