Johanna Spantzel is originally from Jena and made her stage debut at the age of eight with the Tanztheater Jena. She studied musical theatre at the Universität der Künste Berlin. During her studies, she won several awards at the 2009 National Singing Competition, including first prize in the junior category.
During this time, she performed at the Neuköllner Oper in »Mein Avatar und ich«. Immediately afterward, she took on the role of Lisa Houseman in »Dirty Dancing« at the Metronom Theater in Oberhausen. Further engagements followed at the Magdeburg Opera House as Lois Lane in »Kiss Me, Kate«, at the National Theatre Mannheim in »Wake Up and Dream - A Cole Porter Songbook«, at the Staatsoperette Dresden as Audrey in »Little Shop of Horrors«, Brenda Strong in »Catch Me If You Can«, and Venus in »One Touch of Venus«. At the Bielefeld Theatre, she appeared as Anne Egermann in »A Little Night Music«, and at the Wuppertal Opera House, she played Janet Weiss in »The Rocky Horror Show«. After appearing in the hit musical »Hinterm Horizont« in Berlin, she took on the role of the "Girl from East Berlin" at the Operettenhaus Hamburg in 2017.
In 2018, she created the role of Lisi Schnabelstedt in the world premiere of »Fack Ju Göhte - Das Musical«. For her performance, she was nominated for the German Musical Theatre Award as Best Leading Actress and won the award for Best Musical with the ensemble.
In 2020, she made her Austrian debut at the Graz Opera as Sarah Brown in the Broadway classic »Guys and Dolls«. Back in her adopted home of Berlin, she played the title role of Sugar Kane in the musical »Sugar - Some Like It Hot« at the Schlossparktheater. At the Erfurt Theatre, she appeared as Luciana in »The Boys from Syracuse« and as Kate McGowan in »Titanic«.
Additionally, in 2024, she appeared in two films and worked in dubbing, including projects for Disney.
