Finnish soprano Kirsi Tiihonen studied at the Sibelius Academy with Professor Liisa Linko-Malmio. After winning first prizes at the International Singing Competition in Rio de Janeiro and the Mirjam Helin Competition in Helsinki, she won the Song Prize in Cardiff, leading to engagements in many countries.
At the Finnish National Opera, she performed roles such as Elisabeth in »Don Carlo«, Leonore in »Fidelio«, and Desdemona in »Otello«, among others. Internationally, she has appeared in Amsterdam, Braunschweig, Gothenburg, Halle, Leipzig, Essen, and on a tour of Japan with the Berlin State Opera under Daniel Barenboim.
In Finland, Tiihonen sang Elisabeth and Venus in »Tannhäuser«, Senta in »Der fliegende Holländer«, Aida at the Savonlinna Opera Festival and in Tampere, as well as Elsa in »Lohengrin«. Highlights of her career include performances at La Scala in Milan, La Monnaie in Brussels, Santiago de Chile, Lyon, Helsinki, Essen, and the Berliner Staatsoper. Most recently, she impressed as Turandot in Kiel.
