The tenor Michael Nowak was born in Innsbruck. He received his first vocal training as a soloist with the Wiener Sängerknaben. He continued his vocal studies at the Brucknerkonservatorium in Linz and graduated with honours. His training was complemented by song and oratorio studies at the Musikhochschule in Vienna. Michael Nowak was a finalist at the International Mozart Singing Competition and a prizewinner at the 1st International Bodenseewettbewerb. As a long-standing ensemble member of the Badisches Staatstheater Karlsruhe and the Niedersächsisches Staatstheater Hannover, he has appeared in numerous productions. He has made guest appearances at the Frankfurt Opera (David, »Meistersinger«). Oper Kassel (Singer, »Rosenkavalier«), Stadttheater Koblenz (Camille de Rosillon, »The Merry Widow«), Helsinki Opera (St John Passion with Peter Schreier). He has sung at the Stadttheater Bern and in Bregenz. Numerous engagements have taken him to the Staatstheater Stuttgart since 2007. Michael Nowak has an extensive operatic repertoire ranging from Baroque and Mozart to Rossini, Donizetti, Puccini, Wagner, Strauss and many others. He has performed at numerous international festivals. Michael Nowak has enjoyed successful artistic collaborations with renowned conductors such as Wolfgang Gönnenwein, Helmut Rilling, Baron Enoch zu Guttenberg, Fabio Luisi, Bernhard Klee, Peter Schreier and Russell Davis. Michael Nowak has also participated in radio recordings and CD recordings. Since 2002, he has been a singing teacher at the Österreichischen Musikschulwerk, artistic director of the Schubertiade Wels and founder and president of the NowaCanto association, which was founded in 2011.
