Christian Crahay

Christian Crahay, born in 1949, is a renowned Belgian actor, director and lecturer. After being awarded the Prix d'art dramatique at the Conservatoire royal de Liège (Prof. René Hainaux) as a young actor, he continued his acting training with Andréas Voutsinas (Actors Studio), Kristin Linklater (Libération de la voix naturelle) and Uta Birnbaum (Berliner Ensemble), among others. In the theatre, he has worked with numerous directors in Belgium and France, including Peter Brook and Benno Besson. He has appeared in many cinema and television productions and has directed numerous theatre productions himself in the Belgian theatre scene. In 1997, he received the Belgian Prix Tenue de ville as best actor for the role of Tom in »Skylight« by David Hare, directed by Adrian Brine. In 2001, he was nominated for the Prix Jean Carmet prize for best supporting actor for the film »Que faisaient les femmes pendant que l'homme marchait sur la Lune?« by Chris Vander Stappen. Since 1996 he has been a lecturer at the Institut des Arts de Diffusion in Brussels and since 1999 he has been a lecturer in scenography at the École nationale supérieure des arts visuels in La Cambre. He has also taken part in numerous readings and cultural programmes on RTBF, France Culture, Radio Canada and Radio Suisse Romande. At Theater und Orchester Heidelberg, Christian Crahay will take on the role of Ferdinand in the world premiere of »Unter euch« by Thomas Depryck and Suzanne Emond in 2024/25.
