Philipp Ludwig Stangl studied composition and visualisation at the Folkwang Hochschule in Essen.
His compositions and videos include works for the stage, compositions for modern dance, works for chamber ensembles, intermedia music theatre as well as audiovisual installations and film works.
Since 2001, he has worked at Theater Basel, Staatsoper Berlin, Deutsches Theater Berlin, Bremer Theater, Theater Bonn, Oper Dortmund, Staatsschauspiel Dresden, Tanzhaus NRW Düsseldorf, PACT Zollverein/Choreographisches Zentrum NRW Essen, Deutsches Theater Göttingen, Bühnen Graz, Deutsches Schauspielhaus Hamburg, Oper Leipzig, Landestheater Linz, Nationaltheater Mannheim, Volkstheater München, Münchner Kammerspiele, Saarländisches Staatstheater Saarbrücken, Hessisches Staatstheater Wiesbaden, among others. Between 2007 and 2012, he was a permanent member of the ensemble at Stadttheater Bern as a composer and video artist.
He has made several guest appearances at Theater und Orchester Heidelberg. Most recently, he was responsible for the video for the opera »Writing to Vermeer« by Louis Andriessen in the 2017/18 season.
He has been a professor of audiovisual design at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Mannheim since 2012.
