Friederike Blum

Friederike Blum studied musical theatre direction at the Hamburg University of Music and Theatre and applied theatre studies at Justus Liebig University in Giessen. She then worked as an assistant director at various opera houses, including the Hamburg State Opera, the Berlin State Opera Workshop and the Braunschweig State Theatre, as well as for independent musical theatre productions. She was engaged as a stage director at the Bavarian State Opera in Munich for four seasons, where, in addition to numerous revivals, she was also responsible for the staging of special formats such as »Die unmögliche Enzyklopädie« (The Impossible Encyclopaedia) and the staged song recital »Tagebuch eines Verschollenen« (Diary of a Lost Man).In her work as a director, she devotes herself to both new forms of musical theatre and the opera repertoire. She was awarded the Götz Friedrich Prize in 2023 for her production of Peter Eötvös'
»Tri Sestry« at the Theater Hagen. Other directing credits include the short opera »Orpheus Moments«, which premiered at the Biennale Musica in Venice, the world premiere of the children's opera »Frank und Bert« at the Bavarian State Opera, »Salome« at the National Theatre Weimar, »La Cenerentola« at Theater Hagen and, most recently, the staged oratorio »La Passion de Simone« by Kaija Saariaho at the Cologne Opera.
