Wolf Gutjahr grew up in Munich. After completing a carpentry apprenticeship, he worked as an assistant at the Schauspielhaus Bochum, the Frankfurt Opera and the Toneelgroep Amsterdam, and studied scenography (diploma) at the Karlsruhe University of Arts and Design. Since 1995, he has been working internationally as a scenographer, stage and costume designer for musical theatre and drama. Wolf Gutjahr designs and realises dramaturgically structured, scenically performative workspaces. These do not exist as artistic ends in themselves, but rather formulate location- and media-specific interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary platforms for creative, artistic and media forms of expression. His productions have received numerous awards and have been invited to the Bonn Biennale, the International Schiller Days in Mannheim, the Beijing International Art Festival, the Heidelberger Stückemarkt, Stücke Mülheim and the Salzburg Festival, among others. Wolf Gutjahr is Professor of Scenography, Scenic Space and Design Fundamentals at Mainz University of Applied Sciences, a member of the Architecture Worldwide selection committee of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) and of the board of trustees of the House of Remembrance – for Democracy and Acceptance in Mainz. Wolf Gutjahr is designing the stage and costumes for »Der zerbrochne Krug« at Theater und Orchester Heidelberg in 2025/26.
