Christian Claas

Christian Claas studied theatre and musicology as well as social psychology in Bochum and Vienna. His early career took him to renowned institutions such as the Castillo Theatre in New York, the Meininger State Theatre, and the Bayreuth Festival, where he held various artistic and organizational roles.

Today, he works as a freelance director, composer, and concept developer for drama and puppet theatre. His scenomusical range spans from cinematic live soundtracks and traditional stage music to Christmas plays with live bands, singing puppets in symphony concerts, and sociocultural audio drama workshops.

For the Chemnitz Puppet Theatre, he created »Wandertag im Weltraum«, an interactive online theatre piece for schools that was awarded the Publikumspreis des Kulturlichter – Deutscher Preis für Kulturelle Bildung.

As a director and project leader, Christian Claas has also developed several participatory performance projects focused on upcycling materials and ideas.

His original musical theatre productions, as well as his compositions and sound designs for other productions, have been (and continue to be) performed – sometimes live – at theatres in Meiningen, Berlin, Dortmund, New York, Zwickau, Chemnitz, Leipzig, Bamberg, Dresden, Magdeburg, Erfurt, Dessau, Gera, and now, for the first time, in Heidelberg.
