Dominik Wollenweber

Dominik Wollenweber was born in Munich and studied oboe at the Richard-Strauss-Konservatorium in Munich with Simon Dent. From 1991 to 1993, he continued his training as a scholarship holder of the Orchesterakademie der Berliner Philharmoniker with Hansjörg Schellenberger. During this time, he also performed as principal oboist with the EU Jugendsinfonieorchester (EUYO) under Claudio Abbado. In addition to several smaller prizes, he was awarded the Bavarian Ministry of Culture Prize in 1992. In 1996 he won the prize for oboe at the ARD-Wettbewerb in Munich. He has been principal English horn with the Berliner Philharmoniker since 1993. From 1998 he was woodwind teacher in the Mahler Youth Orchestra GMJO for 10 years. Dominik Wollenweber received a guest professorship for oboe at the Hanns-Eisler-Musikhochschule in Berlin in 2000. Numerous students from his oboe class play in renowned top orchestras or have won prizes in international competitions. As part of his orchestral activities, he appears in many ensembles as a soloist or chamber musician. He is also a member of the »Ensemble Berlin Prag«. He has also appeared as a baroque oboist for many years. He was awarded the OPUS KLASSIK prize for best instrumentalist in 2022 for his recording »The Art of English Horn«.
