Astrid Boons

Astrid Boons (1988, Belgium) is a choreographer and performer, getting known in the European dance scene for her emotionally demanding pieces and her strongly embodied states. Astrid Boons graduated from The Royal Ballet School of Antwerp (BE). She holds a BA Dance from Codarts (NL) and a BA of Arts (Honours) in Humanities (Art History and Philosophy) from the Open University (UK).
Astrid Boons has been an associate artist with Korzo Theatre in The Netherlands between 2021-2025. In 2025 she premiered her new work »Deep Time«, which is the second part in the Khôra-trilogy. »Khôra« premiered in 2023, for which research residencies were held at Tanzplatform Rhein Main, Opera Ballet Flanders, The Norwegian Ballet and La Briqueterie. »Khôra« is currently touring internationally and has also been presented at Tanzbiennale Heidelberg 2025. Other works include »Do you believe me yet?« (2022), »Arise« (2021), »Crash« (2020 for Dance Theatre Heidelberg) »Fields« (2019), »Decay« (2018), and »Vestige« (2017).
Astrid Boons received the BNG Bank Dance Award 2017 and Piket Art Award 2017 for her duet »Rhizoma« (2016). In 2021, she was nominated for the prestigious Prize of The Netherlands Dance Days for choreography. Her work has been programmed in international venues such as Impulstanz, Tanzbiennale Heidelberg, Julidans, Tanzfaktur, among others.
Alongside her work as a choreographer, Astrid Boons developed her movement practice which is derived from her choreographic research. She has taught in international companies and schools such as Nederlands Dans Theater, Dance Theatre Heidelberg, Opera Ballet Flanders, Tanztheater Kassel, Hessisches Staatsballett, The Norwegian Ballet, Arts Umbrella, NOD, Codarts, ArtEZ, Royal Conservatory Antwerp, AHK, among others.
In Heidelberg, she will be working on »Crash: reassembled«, a piece she originally created with DTH in 2020 but which could not be performed for an audience due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
