Valentin Tszin is an artist with Russian roots. In his youth, he practised martial arts (taekwondo) and trained as an actor (theatre and film). Later, he explored non-verbal, physical theatre and gained experience as a freelance theatre director. In 2008, he discovered the philosophy and art of Butoh. Since then, Valentin Tszin has understood his artistic activity as a constantly unfinished, ongoing transformation. In more than 12 years of wide-ranging research, he has connected Butoh with new fields such as dramatic theatre (with his ensemble PoemaTheater), poetry (Festival de Poesía de Medellín), parametric art (opening of the Zaha Hadid Dominion Tower), landscape art (Archstoyanie Festival), performance art (Young Boy Dancing Group), digital art (Les Territoires Éphémères & Singularity), comic art (Comic Festival Malbrouck), fashion (collaboration with Obscur / Söderberg for Paris Fashion Week) and numerous experiments in film, video and techno culture (projects for Berlin Atonal, CTM Festival, Halle am Berghain, Smoke Machine, Ampere Open Air, Gamma Festival and many more). In 2017, Valentin began developing his own artistic method, »Das Gegenteil« (The Opposite). He currently lives and works in Berlin. Valentin Tszin is developing the choreography for Evgenija Safonova's production of »The Vegetarian« based on Han Kang at Theater und Orchester Heidelberg in 2025/26.
