Yannis Pouspourikas

Yannis Pouspourikas studied at the Geneva Conservatory and the Zurich Opera House before becoming an assistant to Sir Simon Rattle at the Glyndebourne Festival and, for four seasons, at the Opéra National de Paris. He then worked at various venues such as the Orchestre National de Lyon, the Flemish Opera (Opera Ballet Vlaanderen), and the Aalto Theater Essen.
As a guest conductor, he now appears at the Opéra National de Paris, the Zurich Opera, the Grand Théâtre de Genève, the Orchestre de Monte-Carlo, the Teatro Real, the Budapest Opera, and many other houses. In recent seasons, Yannis Pouspourikas conducted the world premiere of »Derborence« as well as »Bluebeard’s Castle« at TOBS! (Theater Orchester Biel Solothurn).
Since 2022, he has been chief conductor of the Sinfonieorchester Biel Solothurn (TOBS!) and presents a diverse repertoire covering a wide range of orchestral music. There he also conducted music theatre evenings including »Derborence« and Bartók’s »Bluebeard’s Castle«.
Under his direction, the TOBS! Symphony Orchestra has performed at the Tonhalle Zurich, in Basel, and most recently at the prestigious New Year’s Eve concert at the Grand Théâtre de Genève.
In the 2024/25 season, he will take over at short notice the musical direction of the new production of »Carmen« at the Heidelberg Castle Festival, marking his debut on the podium of the Philharmonisches Orchester Heidelberg.
