The young singer Fritz Spengler was born in Bavaria in 1990 and switched to countertenor after his voice broke. From 2007 to 2009, he studied singing with Saverio Suarez-Ribaudo in Munich. At the same time, he supplemented his training with masterclasses with Marilyn Schmiege, Angelika Kirchschlager and Trevor Pinnock.
From 2009 to 2015, he studied at the Mozarteum University Salzburg with Prof. Kjellaug Tesaker and graduated with honours. During his studies, he was a scholarship holder of the Hübel Foundation.
Fritz Spengler gained his first stage experience at his opera debut in 2008 as Prince Orlofsky in »Die Fledermaus« and in three productions at the theatre // an der rott. There he played Cupid (»Orfeo ed Euridice«), the Crispy Witch (»Hänsel & Gretel«) and Prince Paul (»Grand Duchess of Gerolstein«) in 2013.
His busy concert schedule has already taken him to numerous theatres in Germany and abroad, including Italy, Austria, the Czech Republic, Switzerland, Croatia and Scotland.
He has worked with the following conductors, among others: Caspar Richter, Michi Gaigg, Wouter Padberg, Lancelot Fuhry, Jochen Hochstenbach, Roman Brogli-Sacher. Directors under whom he has performed include, for example: Manuel Schmitt, Christian von Götz, Andreas Rosar, Jasmina Hadziahmetovic, Leonard Prinsloo, Sam Brown.
At the International Lions Singing Competition Gut Immling in 2009, he was honoured as the best young artist. He received two awards at the Concorso Internazionale Arte Musicale e Talento in Vicenza in 2010: »All'Artista più giovane« and the »Premio Comitato l'onore Villa Cordellina«.
From 2015-18 he was a member of the ensemble at Trier Theatre, where he took on roles such as Idamante (»Idomeneo«), the Crispy Witch (»Hänsel & Gretel«), Oberon (»A Midsummer Night's Dream«), Nicklausse / La Muse (»Les contes d'Hoffmann«) and others.
His debut album »German Arias« was released in May 2017 and was nominated for the German Record Critics' Award.
In summer 2018, he sang Goffredo in Handel's »Rinaldo« in Brig (Brig Baroque) in Switzerland. In 2019, he made his debut at both the Mosel Music Festival and the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.
Since 2020, he has been a regular guest at the Maxlrain Opera, where he has sung roles such as Prince Paul (»Grand Duchess of Gerolstein«), Countess Eberbach (»Der Wildschütz«) and Pontio Pilato (»Das Liebesverbot«).
In the 2024 festival summer, he performed Kurt Schwitters' »Ursonate« together with musician and composer Paul Winter in Bregenz.
In 2025, he made his debut at the Münster Theatre as Delfa in Cavalli's masterpiece »Il Giasone«.
