Marie Bues studied acting at Hochschule für Musik und darstellende Kunst in Stuttgart. Together with Martina Grohmann, she was the artistic director at Theater Rampe Stuttgart from 2013 to 2021. She currently works as a freelance director and curator and lives in Berlin. Starting in the 2023/24 season, she will take over as artistic director of Schauspielhaus Wien together with Martina Grohmann, Mazlum Nergiz and Tobias Herzberg as a team. In her work as director, Marie Bues consistently deals with new texts and works closely with the authors. She has worked at Theater Basel, Residenztheater München, Nationaltheater Mannheim, Theater Lübeck, Staatstheater Karlsruhe, Staatstheater Saarbrücken, Theater Magdeburg, Bühnen Bern, Theater an der Parkaue Berlin, Theater und Orchester Heidelberg, Schauspielhaus Graz, Schauspiel Köln, Kunstfest Weimar, as well as regularly at Theater Rampe and Staatstheater Hannover.
She has served as a jury member for the Kunststiftung Baden Württemberg, Bundesministerium für Kultur und Medien, Deutscher Bühnenverein, Heidelberger Stückemarkt, Deutsche Akademie der Darstellenden Künste and Ministerium für Bildung und Kultur des Saarlands, among others. She has held teaching positions at the Hochschule für Musik und darstellende Kunst in Stuttgart and at Theaterakademie August Everding in Munich.
