The German soprano Susanne Serfling has been a member of the ensemble at the Musiktheater im Revier in Gelsenkirchen since the 2025/26 season. She opened the current season there to great critical acclaim as Senta in »Der fliegende Holländer«. In 2026, she will make her house debut at the Staatstheater Saarbrücken as Gutrune in »Die Götterdämmerung« and return to Theater Heidelberg as Leonore in »Fidelio«.
Highlights of recent seasons include her house debut as Salome at the Musiktheater im Revier as well as performances of the same role at Malmö Opera. She was heard on Deutschlandfunk with »Vier letzte Lieder« by R. Strauss in a concert with the Philharmonic Orchestra Bremerhaven.
As a highly sought-after interpreter of complex female characters in the operatic repertoire, her artistic portfolio includes, in addition to Salome—which she has now performed in six productions—roles such as Médée in »Médée« by Cherubini and Minnie in »La fanciulla del West«. Since working as a freelance artist from 2014 onwards, Susanne Serfling has performed roles including Senta, Marietta, Leonore, Chrysothemis, Salome, Ariadne, Minnie, Angelica, and Butterfly.
Previously, she held permanent engagements at Theater Erfurt and Staatstheater Darmstadt. Guest appearances have taken her, among others, to the Salzburg Festival, the Opera di Roma, Deutsche Oper am Rhein, Teatr Wielki Warsaw, and the state theatres in Oldenburg, Cottbus, and Braunschweig.
Her concert performances with works by Weill, Mahler, Strauss, Puccini, and Verdi, among others, at venues such as the Tonhalle Zurich, the Crossound Festival Alaska, as well as in the United States and Mexico, document her artistic activity.
Susanne Serfling is a graduate of the Hanns Eisler School of Music Berlin. Early stage experience as a student at Berlin theatres, working with artists such as Julia Varady, Harry Kupfer, Peter Konwitschny, George Tabori, Stefan Soltesz, and Michail Jurowski, played a decisive role in shaping her artistic development.
