Émilie Monnet grew up between Canada and France as the daughter of an Anichinabeg mother and a French father. She studied communication sciences and hispanic studies in Ottawa, continuing with a master's programme in peace studies and conflict resolution in Deusto and Uppsala. Her art blends theatre, performance, sound and video art, exploring issues of identity, multilingualism and the heritage of indigenous culture in North America. In 2011, Émilie Monnet founded the production platform Onishka, which supports indigenous artists. Until 2024, she held an artist residency at Éspace GO in Montréal.
