Mara-Madeleine Pieler

Mara-Madeleine Pieler works as a set designer and lighting designer in Hamburg. In her artistic practice, she explores light as a dramaturgical and space-defining medium, combining scenographic, performative, and architectural approaches. Her work is created for theatre, opera, and exhibitions, including at the Düsseldorfer Schauspielhaus, Theater Luzern, Schauspielhaus Graz, Kampnagel, the Deutsches Schauspielhaus Hamburg, the Maxim Gorki Theater Berlin, Staatstheater Cottbus and the Korean National Opera in Seoul. Pieler studied at the Staatliche Akademie der Bildenden Künste Stuttgart and at Hochschule für bildende Künste Hamburg, and earned a master’s degree in Architectural Lighting Design from Hochschule Wismar. In addition to her artistic work, she is active as a teacher.
