Paulina Barreiro

Paulina Barreiro is an Italian-Argentine set and costume designer with roots in Buenos Aires, Milan and Berlin. She studied set design at the Accademia di Belle Arti di Brera in Milan, at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen and at the Technische Universität Berlin.

From 2018 to 2021, she worked as a permanent assistant set designer at the Düsseldorfer Schauspielhaus, where she collaborated on productions by renowned directors such as Robert Wilson, David Bösch, Stephan Kimmig and Sebastian Baumgarten. At the Düsseldorfer Schauspielhaus, she also realised her first independent works as a set and costume designer, including Georg Büchner’s »Lenz« and Anja Tuckermann’s »Der Mann, der eine Blume sein wollte« (both directed by Fabian Rosonsky), as well as Mary Shelley’s »Frankenstein« (directed by Niall Potter).

She has been working as a freelancer since 2022. She maintains an ongoing artistic collaboration with the directors Bassam Ghazi, Stas Zhyrkov and Alessandra Giuriuola.

Her work at the Düsseldorf Schauspielhaus includes, amongst others, »Odyssee«, »Die Orestie. Nach dem Krieg«, »Dschinns«, »Verbrennungen«, »Romeo & Julia« and the open-air production »Ein Sommernachtstraum«.

In addition, Paulina Barreiro works at numerous theatres and festivals in Germany, Italy and Switzerland. Her work has been staged, amongst others, at the Performing Arts Festival Berlin, the Schauspielhaus Zürich, the Theater Paderborn, the Gandersheimer Domfestspiele, the Berliner Ensemble, the Tonhalle Düsseldorf and the Musikalische Komödie Leipzig.

During the 2026/27 season, she will be designing the set for »Mama, bitte lern Deutsch« by Tahsim Durgun (directed by Bassam Ghazi) and the stage design for Bertolt Brecht’s »Der aufhaltsame Aufstieg des Arturo Ui« (directed by Stas Zhyrkov) at Theater & Orchester Heidelberg.
