David Benjamin Brückel

David Benjamin Brückel was born in Freiburg im Breisgau in 1982 and grew up in Switzerland. He studied theatre, film and media studies at Universtität Wien and subsequently worked as an assistant director and freelance director. From 2013 to 2018, he was dramaturg and deputy director of the Bürgerbühne at the Staatsschauspiel Dresden, where he developed and oversaw numerous participatory productions and formats. In the 2018/19 season, he moved to the Düsseldorfer Schauspielhaus, initially to the ‘Junge Schauspiel’ and later to the main theatre; he has been Head Dramaturg there since 2025. From the 2026/27 season, he will become Chief Dramaturg at the main theatre and Deputy Artistic Director at the Theater & Orchester Heidelberg.
