Ansgar Prüwer

Ansgar Prüwer is a freelance set and costume designer. In addition to spoken theater, he creates productions for musical theater. His engagements have taken him to venues including the Düsseldorfer Schauspielhaus, the Schauspielhaus Bochum, the Nationaltheater Weimar, the Ruhrtriennale, the Theater und Philharmonie Essen, and the Bühnen Bern. During the 2026/27 season, he will also be working at the Residenztheater in Munich, the Schauspiel Frankfurt, the Schauspiel Hannover, and the Leipzig Opera.

He maintains ongoing collaborations with directors Ran Chai Bar-zvi, André Kaczmarczyk, Felix Krakau, and Jan Gehler, as well as with costume designer Martina Lebert.

From 2016 to 2022, Ansgar Prüwer served as head of set design at the Düsseldorfer Schauspielhaus. Prior to that, he worked as a set design assistant at the Staatsschauspiel Dresden, as well as in the independent theater scene and at venues in Copenhagen, Sheffield, and London. He studied theater studies at the Freie Universität Berlin and earned his diploma in set and costume design from the Hochschule für Bildende Künste Dresden. In 2022, he was awarded the State Capital of Düsseldorf’s Encouragement Prize for the Performing Arts.
