Philipp Rosendahl

Philipp Rosendahl, born in Düsseldorf in 1990, studied acting at the New York Conservatory for Dramatic Arts. He was subsequently appointed as an assistant director and director at the Staatstheater Kassel, rose to become resident director and head of the Junges Staatstheater, and during these seven years deepened his passion for cross-disciplinary work.

From 2022 to 2025, he took over the drama department at the Staatstheater Cottbus alongside Franziska Benack and Armin Petras. As a freelance director, he has staged opera, drama and musicals at venues including the Nationaltheater Mannheim, Schauspiel Stuttgart, Düsseldorfer Schauspielhaus, Theater Bremen and the Gothenburg Opera.

In 2016, Rosendahl received the Young Talent Award from the Fördergesellschaft Staatstheater Kassel e.V. for outstanding achievements. In 2018, he was nominated as Young Director of the Year by the trade journal Die Deutsche Bühne for his production of »Judas« . His pop opera »Alice« was voted one of the top 10 productions of the season at the nachtkritik Theatre Festival in 2025.

In the 2026/27 season, he will direct the pop opera »Pinocchio« at the Schauspiel Köln, the musical »Dear Evan Hansen« at the First Stage Theater Hamburg, as well as the operas »Der fliegende Holländer« at the Theater Luzern and »Mefistofele« at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein.
