Jan Preißler

Jan Preißler (they/he), born in Berlin in 1991, is a freelance musician, composer, writer and performer with an interdisciplinary focus on music, theatre, performance and video. Jan’s work combines experimental aesthetics with queer-feminist, intersectional and power-critical perspectives and has been staged at venues including the Staatsschauspiel Dresden, the Deutsches Theater Berlin, the Maxim Gorki Theater in Berlin, Kampnagel Hamburg, the Schauspielhaus Graz, the Volkstheater Wien and the Künstler:innenhaus Mousonturm. In 2022, Jan took up a teaching post at the Universität der Künste Berlin in the Drama Department. Trained in guitar, vocals, electric bass, piano, bagpipes and other instruments, Jan has been active in genres ranging from black metal to pop, for example with Massive Attack, the Beatsteaks, Listener, Sarah Connor and Sookee. Current projects include Dino Paris & der Chor der Finsternis, the duo Twin Tooth (with Anna Kohlweis) and the queer black metal project vchepyvsi blud (with Natalya Androsova). Previously, Jan was part of the band Vögel die Erde essen (Kreismusik) and the Electronica DuoWælder (Denovali Records). Jan Preißler lives with his child in a Berlin housing co-operative. Jan’s art is strongly influenced by everyday life, parenthood and social dynamics. At Theater & Orchester Heidelberg, Jan Preißler is composing and arranging the music for »Over the Rainbow« in 2026/27, a musical evening about the life of Judy Garland.
