Sebastian Katzer

Sebastian Katzer heads a production team at Deutsche Welle that produces video trailers and campaigns in four languages. He also composes music for film, television and theatre: songs and music for documentaries, trailers, exhibitions and films.

He has been working in theatre with Kristo Šagor since 1999, at both large and small venues across Germany. For Šagor’s »Frankenstein« at the Staatstheater Oldenburg, he wrote a half-hour film score, performed by the Staatstheater Oldenburg; for a youth project in Hanover, in which many young people were involved, a band was formed specifically for the occasion, whose songs drove the plot forward. A significant proportion of his stage music has been composed for young audiences – theatre for young people is what interests him most.

The music is often created using video: the rehearsal is filmed, and the music is composed to accompany the images, much like a soundtrack. In this way, what he knows from film finds its way back onto the stage.
