Martina van Boxen

Martina van Boxen is making her debut at the Heidelberg Theatre and Orchestra with her adaptation of »Schöne neue Welt«.

She is a director, actress and playwright. She trained as an actress at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Hannover. She subsequently worked at various theatres across Germany as an actress and director. For twelve years she was the artistic director of the Theaterwerkstatt Hannover; for thirteen years she headed the Junges Schauspielhaus Bochum; and for two years she was in charge of JUST – Junges Staatstheater Kassel.

In 2018, she co-founded the independent collective Junge Bühne Bochum, where she continues to work. As a director, she works on a freelance basis at various theatres throughout Germany, such as the Theater Ingolstadt, the KJT Dortmund, the Theater Freiburg, the TDJW Leipzig, the Rottstr 5 Theater in Bochum and the Staatstheater Wiesbaden.

She directs productions for children, young people and adults, as well as participatory projects. She has frequently directed at the Schauspielhaus Bochum and at the Bürger:Bühne at the Staatstheater Dresden.

Her teaching roles have taken her, amongst other places, to the Folkwang University of the Arts in Essen and to the Akademie für Kulturelle Bildung des Bundes und des Landes NRW in Remscheid.

Her work is regularly invited to national and international festivals and has won numerous awards. For her production »Lindbergh. Die abenteuerliche Geschichte einer fliegenden Maus«, based on the picture book by Torben Kuhlmann, she was awarded the 2018 German Theatre Prize DER FAUST in the category »Beste Regie im Kinder- und Jugendtheater«.
