Chaz'men Williams-Ali

U.S. tenor Chaz'men Williams-Ali has appeared in Heidelberg as Pinkerton in »Madama Butterfly«, Florestan in »Fidelio«, Canio in »Pagliacci«, Tebaldo in »I Capuleti e i Montecchi«, and most recently as the Prince in »Rusalka«. He made his debut at New York's Metropolitain Opera as Fritz Zorn in Wagner's »Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg«. In the current season, Chaz'men Williams-Ali's engagements include Madison Opera as Narraboth (»Salome«), Kentucky Opera as Rodolfo (»La Boheme«) and Opera Idaho as the Prince (»Rusalka«). He made his international debut at English National Opera as Robbins/Crab Man in »Porgy and Bess« in a co-production with the Metropolitan Opera and the Netherlands National Opera. At English National Opera, Chaz'men Williams-Ali embodied the role of Edgardo in »Lucia de Lammermoor« and appeared in a staged production of Britten's »War Requiem«. Past roles he has sung include Lensky (»Eugene Onegin«) at Washington National Opera and Robbins/Crab Man (»Porgy and Bess«) at Fort Worth Opera. He also performed these roles the previous season at the Glimmerglass Opera Festival in Cooperstown, New York State. His other successes include a return to Opera Theatre of Saint Louis as Alfredo (»La Traviata«). He also sang Don Jose (»Carmen«) in a concert with the Washington Chorus and made his Florida Grand Opera debut as Arturo in »Lucia de Lammermoor«. Chaz'men Williams-Ali made his operatic debut in 2008 in Gilbert and Sullivan's »The Gondoliers« at Cedar Rapids Opera Theatre. His other roles include Ferrando »Cosi fan tutte«, Cavaradossi »Tosca«, Edgardo »Lucia de Lammermoor«, Romeo »Romeo et Juliette« and Nemorino »L'elisir d'amore«. Chaz'men Williams-Ali is musically versatile and also devotes himself to other genres: he performs professionally with a jazz ensemble alongside his drums-playing father. He can also be heard in renowned blues venues in the USA as well as in musicals.
