Hella Prokoph studied at the Kunsthochschule Dresden, the Rietveld-Akademie Amsterdam and the Kunsthochschule Berlin-Weißensee and graduated in 2004 as a master student under the supervision of Roland Schimmelpfennig. She assisted Katrin Brack at the Volksbühne Berlin (director: Dimiter Gotscheff).
Since 2003 she has worked as a stage and costume designer for opera and theatre at the Theater Augsburg, Thalia-Theater Hamburg, Kampnagel Hamburg, Theater St. Gallen, Oper Halle, Theater Konstanz, Radialsystem Berlin, Landestheater Linz, Theater Ingolstadt, Berliner Philharmoniker, Grand Theatre Luxembourg, Theater Würzburg, Schauspiel Hannover, Schauspiel Magdeburg and the Staatstheater Mainz. After »Maria Magda« by Svenja Viola Bungarten, she will continue her collaboration with director Brit Bartkowiak at the Theater und Orchester Heidelberg in the 2022/23 season with the stage design for the first performance of »Teeth and Claws« by Peter Thiers.
