Diego Martin-Etxebarria

Engaged as 1st Kapellmeister at the Chemnitz Theaters since 2020, Diego Martin-Etxebarria was born in Bilbao in 1979. He has made guest appearances with the Osaka Philharmonic Orchestra, Nagoya Philharmonic Orchestra, Yomiuri Nippon Symphony Orchestra, St. Petersburg Academic Capella, Orquesta Sinfónica de Bilbao, Orquesta Sinfónica de Euskadi, Orquesta Sinfónica de Galicia, Orquesta Sinfónica de Tenerife, Orquesta Ciudad de Granada, Orquestra Simfònica de Barcelona i Nacional de Catalunya, Orquesta Nacional de España, with the Philharmonic Orchestra Freiburg and the Camerata Variabile Basel.  From 2016 to 2020 Diego Martin-Etxebarria was 1st Kapellmeister and Deputy General Music Director at Bühnen Krefeld and Mönchengladbach. Guest engagements have taken him to the Augsburg Theater, the Berliner Staatsoper, the Teatro Arriaga Bilbao, the Teatro Real Madrid, the Teatro de la Zarzuela and the Teatro Principal de Palma, among others, for musical theater productions. In Chemnitz he has already conducted the operas »The Magic Flute«, »Bastien und Bastienne«, »Die Entführung aus dem Serail«, »Hansel und Gretel«, »Aida«, »Tristan und Isolde«, »Das schlaue Füchslein« as well as the ballets »Der Nussknacker«, »Schwanensee«, »Cinderella« and »Romeo und Julia«.  Diego Martin-Etxebarria is a multiple prize winner of the 17th Tokyo International Music Conducting Competition. His recording of Enric Morera's zarzuela »La viola d'or« was named »Best Classical CD of 2016« by critics in Catalonia. In the fall of 2020, Sony Classical released a CD of works by Albert Guinovart, recorded by Diego Martin-Etxebarria with the Orquestra Simfònica de Barcelona i Nacional de Catalunya. His latest recording is Udo Zimmermann's opera »Der Schuhu und die fliegende Prinzessin« with the Robert Schumann Philharmonie and the ensemble of the Theater Chemnitz.
