1st Chamber Concert
Johannes Brahms: Clarinet Quintet in B Minor op. 115 / Camille Saint-Saëns: Septet in E-flat Major op. 65
Alter Saal
Brahms' Clarinet Quintet is part of the core repertoire for clarinetists and chamber music enthusiasts. Brahms had actually declared in 1891 that he no longer wished to compose. But then he was inspired to new creativity by the clarinettist Richard Mühlfeld.
Saint-Saëns' Septet is not only unusual in its instrumentation for trumpet, string quintet and piano, but also in its stylistic reference to suites from the Baroque period.
