New Year's Eve Concert
Peter I. Tchaikovsky: »The Nutcracker« op. 71 (concertante)
Aula der Neuen Universität
Dream and reality flow into each other. Little Clara receives a nutcracker as a Christmas present. At midnight, as if by magic, nutcrackers and tin soldiers come to life and fight relentlessly against the Mouse King's host. Clara's courage decides the battle - the prince, once transformed into a nutcracker, is redeemed. In return, he takes the girl on a dancing journey to the realm of the Snow Queen and the magnificent palace of the Sugar Plum Fairy.
Peter I. Tchaikovsky's ballet takes us into a fantastic fairytale world. The story, based on the fairy tales of E. T. A. Hoffmann and Alexandre Dumas, oscillates between illusion and reality, between dark shadows, the redeeming power of love and the longing for the magic of childhood, a true feast for young and old - with enchanting music and silver-sounding chimes.
