Ludwig van Beethoven: Symphony no. 3 E-flat Major op. 55 »Eroica«
Alter Saal
Written in 1803, the third symphony was originally composed in honour of Napoleon Bonaparte. It was printed three years later but dedicated to Beethoven’s patron Prince Lobkowitz, containing the addition »Sinfonica Eroica« in memory of a »grand Uomo«, which – due to the changed political situation – now probably refers to the Prussian Prince Louis Ferdinand who fell in the battle against Napoleon.
With »BEEEEEEEEEthoven!« you can enjoy all nine of Beethoven’s symphonies as a cycle spaced over two seasons: The season 2024/25 will see the performance of the first four symphonies, the following season will comprise another four, culminating in the grand finale of his 9th symphony as Philharmonic Concert.
