An American businessman is murdered mysteriously and brutally during a journey on the Orient Express from Istanbul to Calais. The famous Belgian detective Hercule Poirot happens to be one of the fellow travellers. He suspects that the author of the crime is still on board the train – and begins to investigate. While the luxury train is stuck in the snow, the plot thickens inside the carriages.

This is the first official stage adaptation of Agatha Christie's famous 1934 mystery. It is a stroke of luck that the American playwright Ken Ludwig (b. 1950, »Lend me a Tenor«) was commissioned for the adaptation: his characters and script cleverly condense the plot, while carefully underlining and updating the comic potential of the murder mystery.

This production is accompanied by a programme from the Arts & Education team.

Der »ganz eigenständige Zugriff« von Regisseur Christian Brey biete einen »sehr unterhaltsamen Abend«. Dem Rezensenten gefällt die »raffinierte« Ausstattung - »hat Stil wie Klasse« - wie auch das Spiel - »mit viel Schwung und Situationskomik«, das den Abend »auf volle Touren hochdreht«: »Jubelnde[r] Applaus mit Bravorufen«.

Hercule Poirot tauge immer noch »für ein Bühnen-Vergnügen«, von Regisseur Christian Brey mit »kräftigen, komödiantischen Farben inszeniert«, meint Eckhard Britsch im Mannheimer Morgen (3. April 2023). Das Stück mache »ohne Zweifel etwas her«, dank der »geschickt entworfenen« Ausstattung von Anette Hachmann wie auch den »lustvoll ausgespielten« Figuren der Komödie.
