The story of a soldier: In 1988, a unique record was rediscovered in the manuscript archive of Berlin’s Preußische Staatsbibliothek: The diary of Peter Hagendorf whose story represents the fate of many who lived during the Thirty Years’ War (1618–1648). A Landsknecht, Hagendorf wandered through Germany, starving, pilfering and getting pissed. His memories are the chronicle of a tragic odyssey of 25,000 km through Germany, France and Italy. This diary gives us a chance to accompany Peter Hagendorf on a musical journey through Europe in war times.
