2nd Song soiree: »Loewe & Strauss«
Companions of German Romanticism
Alter Saal
Carl Loewe and Richard Strauss - two composers who, despite their different musical languages, cultivated a special affinity with poetry, their settings create a space in which stories and moods unfold in an unmistakable way.
Loewe, who was regarded as the »ballad king« of his native Pomerania, is, alongside Franz Schubert, the companion who led the art form »Lied« from the Classical period into the Romantic era. Strauss, on the other hand, as a representative of late Romanticism, symbolises the transition to modernity, which he depicts like no other in his musical language.
In this personal programme, the two Heidelberg Kammersänger Wilfried Staber (bass) and Winfrid Mikus (tenor) present a subtle dialogue between fine tonal language and emotional depth, accompanied on the piano by Hanna Klose.
Hardly any other genre stands for individual artistic expression more than the Kunstlied. On four dates – the last two ones will take place in January and June 2025 – the members of the opera ensemble invite you to the Alter Saal and present many different facets of the art of song – from classical to modern – and show the diversity of this popular genre. Each evening promises a unique musical experience in which our singers and the musical sophistication of the art song take centre stage.
