Hamlet-Variations
A musical solo theatre evening for an actor with percussion / freely adapted from William Shakespeare
Zwinger 1
»Who there?«
This question begins what is probably the most famous work of all time, which seems more relevant than ever today. It is also the core question of this theatre evening: Which self are we actually and how should we act in this world?
Hamlet is one of the most complex characters in world literature. He is a philosopher, friend, aggrieved son, actor, tragic hero and cold-blooded murderer. This theatre evening traces these different facets of Hamlet's character, his personality variations, so to speak.
With his drums and a whole range of other instruments, actor and musician Simon Mazouri uses the famous Hamlet monologues to explore the fusion of music and drama.
The instruments are Hamlet's counterparts, partners and means of expression at the same time. They become the pulse that drives Hamlet, an attempt to break out of convention and a subtle play with madness, sometimes light and dancing, sometimes philosophically heavy.
