Urban Dance, identity, tradition

Anne Nguyen, a dancer and choreographer, as well as a theatre director and writer, has a background in science. She has won several Battles of the Year and is a world champion in breakdance, in addition to being named Chevalier de l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres. In her piece »Underdogs«, three dancers strive to stay connected as they explore the symbols and social markers of the urban collective unconscious that bind them. By embodying the postures, gestures, and energies that infuse hip hop dance, they express their personal and emotional ties to the origins of their art. Underdogs are those who are expected to lose, blending into the urban landscape, often observed but rarely acknowledged. Set against a backdrop of soul music reminiscent of the political climate in 1970s America, their explosive energy resonates with the rebellious spirit of popular movements.
