The German weekly news magazine DER SPIEGEL called him an »animal on stage«: The Belgian chanson singer Jacques Brel was known for giving it his all on stage. »Amsterdam«, »Ne me quitte pas«, »L’amour est mort«: He tackled the big dramas of life with sharp humour and bitter melancholy in his immortal chansons. His theatrical talent is unforgotten and his music is a world of its own. Born in Paris, acclaimed stage, film and TV star Dominique Horwitz knows how to celebrate the music of Brel like no other. His songs seem like they were made for Horwitz. In 2002, he received the renowned and well-deserved Mephisto Price for his Brel programme. Süddeutsche Zeitung is convinced: »It’s often embarrassing when actors try to be singers or vice versa. [...] And then there is Dominique Horwitz, who makes both seem completely natural, as if one was related to the other. His brothers in spirit are Serge Gainsbourg and Jacques Brel.«
