The special history of Jewish life in Heidelberg can be easily reconstructed in the Old Town. This has always included phases of acceptance by the Christian majority society as well as anti-religious and racially motivated hostility, traces of which can still be traced. On this city tour, the Jewish community becomes visible as an actor in its ongoing struggle for recognition. It draws an arc from the medieval community to the present day and we discover the lasting contributions of Jewish Heidelberg residents to the city's memory.
Dr. Norbert Giovannini was a student in Heidelberg and Frankfurt, teacher, teacher trainer and lecturer at the PH-Heidelberg. He is co-founder of the Heidelberg History Association. In 2020, he received the German Jewish History Award from the American Obermayer Foundation. He has been researching and publishing on Jewish (Heidelberg) history for a long time.
