Blutbuch
Novel by Kim de l’Horizon / Adaptation and Direction: Jan Friedrich / Theater Magdeburg
Kim de l’Horizon has in many ways written one of the most important books in recent years: »Showing an enormous amount of creative energy, the non-binary narrator in »Blutbuch« is looking for their own language. What narratives are there for a body that evades the usual concept of gender?« Praise by the jury who awarded de l’Horizon the German book prize in 2022. The book starts with the narrator’s grandma being in the early stages of dementia, prompting Kim, the narrator, to dig in the past and to pose questions, in particular to the narrator’s mother’s family. Kim de l’Horizon’s touching, funny and complex generational story about gender identity, traumata, talking and not talking has been staged in Magdeburg in an adaptation by Jan Friedrich. The core question for him and his team was: Which experiences, legacies and influences do we pass on to the next generation?
