Doping
by Nora Abdel-Maksoud / Direction: Nora Abdel-Maksoud / Münchner Kammerspiele
Grit your teeth and do it: In a performance-driven life, what’s the drug we use to dope ourselves? Lütje Wesel, an ambitious local politician, has started a career on the German island of Sylt. He believes in the laws of a free market. He knows that politics is a marathon, not a sprint. On the eve of what was to be the conclusion of his election campaign, he breaks down. His team does whatever they can to restore him so he’ll be able to deliver top performance again within 24 hours. They take him to a secret private clinic with very unusual staff and curious methods. How does the proponent of a minimalistic welfare state fare when he’s in need of support himself?
When the joke’s over in real life, Nora Abdel-Maksoud only just gets started. After the success of her fast-paced comedy »Jeep«, Abdel-Maksoud, who lives in Munich, wrote and staged new plot twists and pointedly comments on the contradictions of our neoliberal lives. A comedy full of black humour about careers, bodies and care in a capitalist system.
