Yellow Gold
by Fabienne Dür / Direction: Malin Lamparter / Stadttheater Gießen
Before her graduation in the big city, Ana returns to her hometown. Her father Fritz, though barely scraping a living by selling chips on their block of high-rise flats, is quite dedicated to his job. In fact, he’s on a manic quest to find the perfect chips recipe. His partner Mimi meanwhile, who helps out at his chip shop, shows little understanding for this desperate search for gold, having hoped for a different life. The same holds true for Juli, Ana’s old friend, who never made it out.
Fabienne Dür’s theatre text is full of love for the quirky and shows a world where feeling paralysed or daring a new start, the comical as well as a crisis, can bring characters together or can let them drift apart. They meet under the endless sky, in a stuffy narrow-minded setting, against the backdrop of looming demolition cranes and always surrounded by the smell of hot frying-fat.
In 2021, the debut play of Fabienne Dür, a young writer, dramaturge and stage director, was nominated for the Autor*innenwettbewerb (Writers’ Competition) of Heidelberger Stückemarkt. Among others, she received the Young Writers’ prize of Mülheimer Theatertage in 2023.
»Gelbes Gold« premiered at Staatstheater Kassel in 2022.
