»Flaschenkinder« / »Bottle-Mates«
Lia and Jonas meet at the bottle bank. They dispose of their parents’ many – way too many – empty bottles every day. Jonas’ mum and Lia’s father drink. The two of them start to bond and find someone in the other who doesn’t need explanations and for whom you don’t need to put on a show. They both dream of a world without bottles, travels to distant countries and tame dragons, with siblings who protect each other. Their bond is tested when Jonas is placed in a foster home and slowly finds a way to leave behind the relationship with his mother, shaped by instability and violence.
»OTA – Trauma und Fraktur« / »OR nurse«
The hospital is a place of rules and hierarchies. And she is one of its most valuable employees. At least, that’s what her boss said nine years ago at the Christmas party. An operating room nurse’s (or OR nurse) daily work takes place in between this praise, surgical instruments and after-work drinks. She loves her work, she is her work, everyday again. But the security of this daily routine is shaken, when it seems that her superiors start to be dissatisfied. »OTA« is a backstage tour of operating rooms and, despite all the serious injuries, over-worked surgeons, the lack of skilled employees and bad coffee, it’s above all a story about how beautiful and worthwhile it is to »repair« people.
»Fußnoten aus dem späten 21. Jahrhundert« / »Footnotes from the Late 21st Century«
There is typing, filing, stapling and copying going on. Outside, there is rain, inside, there is coffee. And there are questions: Who makes coffee for whom in an administration department? Who takes the last piece of cake? And why does thinking of penguins make it easier to cry? »Fußnoten aus dem späten 21. Jahrhundert« takes place at the end of this century. The administration department’s job is still not to solve problems but to categorise them: Put it on the pile for sadness or protest or for people who sneaked an extra portion of meat. But there is a character called »Paranormal Activity«, a sun that is much too hot and a water stain in the office that grows into an ocean. There is a dead wale washed ashore in front of the copy machine and there are analyses and tenderness in light of the future. What is clear is: It’s not the weather!
